A Peek Behind the Vines

Proof that a stubborn idea, a hillside of grapes, and a whole lot of hard work can turn into something pretty special.

How We Got Here (And Why We Stayed)

Every great vineyard starts with someone crazy enough to plant something on a hillside and hope for the best.

Wild Mountain Winery grew out of a simple, stubborn love for this particular piece of land in Taylors Falls, MN. The glacial hills, the winding river valley, the way the light falls in October — all of it felt worth protecting and worth sharing. So we started growing grapes, made some wine, and then thought: why not let people stay a while? The campground came next, not as a business plan but as a natural extension of the same idea — that good wine and good company belong outside, under the sky, with no rush to be anywhere else.

We didn’t set out to build a resort—we just set out to share something we loved: the land, the grapes, and the particular kind of quiet you can only find sitting between vine rows with a glass of something honest. We’re deeply grateful to Alan and Judy Olson for building this retreat, and today, we’re proud to carry their vision forward as a 2nd-generation, veteran-owned small business sharing this valley with everyone who walks through the door.

Grown Right Here. No Shortcuts.

Wild Mountain is a true estate vineyard — the grapes are grown on the same glacially carved hills where the wine is made, right here in Taylors Falls. That means what's in your glass started about a hundred yards from where you're standing.

Glacial Hills & Honest Soil

The terrain around Taylors Falls is the product of glacial deposits that left behind exceptional drainage and a distinct mineral character in the soil. Those conditions show up in the fruit and eventually in the wine — in ways you can't replicate on flat, managed land.

Cold-Hardy Varieties

We grow varieties specifically bred for Minnesota winters, built to thrive in hard freezes — not just survive them. The result is wines with genuine, place-specific character, not the kind of generic grocery-store fruit that could have come from anywhere.

Made in Small Batches

No middle men, no factory line, and definitely no corporate suit telling us how to blend. From the day we pick the grapes to the moment we bottle the batch, it’s all us. Small quantities, zero shortcuts, and a whole lot of care in every glass.

"The grapes don't know they're supposed to be impressive. They just grow. We think that's the whole point."

As Seen In

Turns out we're not the only ones who think camping in a vineyard is a pretty great idea.
